21 September 2006 BLOOMING MARVELLOUS Year 11 students on the Flexible Curriculum programme have been improving the environment by planting containers and hanging baskets, and displaying them in the Year area. Students raised over £200 when in Year 10 by playing ‘The Apprentice’ during their tutorial programme. They also wrote letters to organisations requesting donations, and ASDA Walmart, Cribbs Causeway, donated plants free of charge. Students planned what flowers and shrubs they wanted to plant, considering both colour and durability. Billy Tovey, one of the students, said “I really enjoyed deciding where to place the plants before planting. It has also been nice being given so much praise by students and staff, who think the plants look nice.” Lauren Jefferies, said “I enjoy doing practical work and feel that we have made a definite improvement to the Year area.” The students now aim to plant an old flower bed but really need the services of a landscape gardener. If anyone would like to assist the students they should call Mrs E Pell on 01454 252005 or email her on Epell@ridingshigh.org. |
