PRESS RELEASE

THE OSCARS LUNCH

Students belonging to the Year 11 Flexible Curriculum Group invited their favourite teachers to an ‘Oscars Lunch’ on Thursday 9 November.

Students booked the school’s conference room and decorated it to resemble a corporate event. They planned the food they would each contribute and found a way of making non-alcoholic ‘bucks fizz’ to serve upon arrival. The usual red carpet took the form of blue carpet tiles, kindly supplied by the school porters, and staff walked its length to be presented with their Oscars.

Students also delivered personal speeches, which some staff found extremely moving. The event was made corporate with the cutting of a ‘champagne’ cake and Mr Wilkins performing his party trick with an ‘After Eight’ mint! The students undertook this task as part of their Youth Award Scheme and they have met the criteria with flowing colours.

Sam Lenthall said, “It was a pleasure to be able to thank a teacher I have respected and valued for the past four and a half years because as students we often don’t get a chance to say thank you”.

Amber Lewis said, “I can’t believe how effective our teamwork was. One minute the room looked really plain, and the next minute we had transformed it into a professional conference room. I have enjoyed every minute”.
