9 December 2004 PRESS RELEASE The Ridings High School played host to a party of twenty-two Year Six students from Elm Park School in Winterbourne. The students visited the secondary school, accompanied by their teacher, Miss Zahringer as part of a Key Stage Two enhancement programme, supported by The Ridings High Design and Technology Faculty. They spent a whole morning in the state-of-the-art Technology Centre using the Millcam Designer and CNC milling machines to produce name plates and logos for their bedroom doors, as well as bookmarks and cake decorations. Mr Matthews of The Ridings commented “The children have really enjoyed the morning and have gained substantial experience through a hands-on project involving industry-standard equipment. They even worked through their break time and were extremely enthusiastic.” The pupils also gained first-hand knowledge of what life at The Ridings is really like and are surprised that students have to carry their books round school with them! Everyone enjoyed the morning’s activities and special thanks to five Year 11 students who volunteered their services to ensure the smooth running of the morning: Rob Gumbrell, Jon Bailey, Tom Collier, Andrew Bruton and Luke Bray.
