SWIM FOR SURVIVAL

On Friday 17 November, Year 10 students from The Ridings High School will aim to swim the length of the Channel. Members of the year’s Student Voice Council are organising the event which they have decided to name ‘Swim For Survival’.

The 1340 lengths that are required to be swum have been divided equally between the ten tutor groups, and throughout the day teams of swimmers will be aiming to swim the required distance. Monies raised through sponsorship will be donated to the Children in Need appeal which is taking place on the same day.

To raise further funds, Mr R Evans, Assistant Headteacher and Miss Kinslow, Assistant Head of Year 10, will be jumping into the swimming pool fully clothed. Both members of staff require a minimum of £150 to be raised before entering the pool! The event will be filmed and students will produce a video using the school’s media editing suite, which will be shown in Year Assemblies.

A promotional video has been produced by students to advertise the event and collections will start next week. Miss C Jakeways, Year 10 School Council representative said, “I very much hope that people will give generously so that we can raise the £1,000 target we have set”.

Miss S Kinslow said, “I don’t mind jumping into the pool because the money raised is for a good cause. Also, it is great to see the fantastic teamwork that is taking place within the Year Group”.

THE END

Notes:

  1. This is a repeat of an event that Year 10 students undertook last year when £749 was raised for Children in Need. The students changed the name of the event to represent the fact that it is a charity fundraiser.

  2. Should you wish to send a photographer, the event starts at 11.15 am continuing through to 12.45 pm. It restarts again at 2.00 pm and continues until 3.30 pm. The spot when the teachers ‘jump’ into the pool is 3.30pm.
