PRESS RELEASE

INSPIRING EDUCATION

November 2004 was the start of an exciting new initiative at The Ridings High School. Saturday mornings changed from a time for a ‘lie-in’ to an occasion when whole families came back to school for a fun-packed learning experience.

To enhance the literacy and numeracy intervention classes in school, forty Year 7 and 8 pupils were invited with their families, to access the very latest technology and software to support their learning.

This initiative has led to a partnership between Sherston Publishing Group and The Ridings High School. Sherston are committed to making learning fun and have provided a range of resources for use in the Family Learning Saturday Club.

On 2 March 2005 Peter Cope from Sherston’s came to The Ridings High School to launch a further initiative whereby educational software purchased under a site licence by The Ridings can now be available to families involved at home for free. Peter also provided parents with information about a three for two offer on software not currently held by the school. This means children can now access this stimulating learning material all week long and this can only inspire academic achievement.

The scheme is the brainchild of Mrs Judith West, Learning Support Co-ordinator, and Mr Paul Lobb, Assistant Headteacher at The Ridings High School. Mrs West said “the Saturday Learning Club has gone from strength to strength and the involvement of Sherston’s is enabling quality learning at home as well as at school.”

Mr Lobb said “it is tremendous to see the involvement and support of so many parents. Making software available to parents at such attractive prices, and often free of charge, will really make a difference. The fact that the scheme has also been extended to feeder primary schools is also a bonus.”
