South Gloucestershire Council seeks to ensure the availability of bus services relevant to the needs of students. While a limited number of their services may receive a degree of financial support from the Council, to ensure their provision, the services do operate on a commercial basis and are effectively, open to the public. In most cases, these services utilise the school’s dedicated, on-site bus park for the arrival and departure of the students.
For present details of the existing services please see the Bus Timetable below.
Although commercial services, the school does act as a point of liaison with the appropriate bus companies regarding concerns about service delivery. This does prevent parents communicating directly with those companies.
Other than the driver, there is no adult supervision on the buses.
The following is an extract from the ‘Student Planner’ issued to students on an annual basis.
Buses:
When you are travelling on buses to and from school, you are a pupil of this school. You are expected to behave sensibly and responsibly making the journey easy for the driver and fellow passengers. Misbehaviour also affects the school’s reputation. We offer support to bus contractors by taking disciplinary action when unacceptable conduct is reported. Remember that should you be banned from using a bus, your parents will have to make sure that you attend school.
Cycles:
Your parents are responsible for making sure that cycles used to and from school are legally safe. You should ride in a manner which is both safe and in keeping with the law.
Cycles should be wheeled through the rear entrances and kept in the locked compound (rear of Arts Centre). You must secure your cycles. The school will investigate damage to/theft of cycles but they are left at the owners’ risk. There is no school or Local Authority insurance cover. To avoid possible damage, pupils should avoid loitering near cycles or any other vehicles.
Motor Cycles and Cars:
No pupils, other than Sixth Form Students who have obtained a full driving licence, are allowed to come to school on motor cycles/scooter. Sixth Form cars may be parked in the spaces marked by the New Gym and Swimming Pool but nowhere else on the school site.
Motorised scooters are not permitted transport for any pupil/student.
Consideration of both safety issues and shortage of parking space have led to these rules.
