The Ridings High School Rewards System commenced in September 2003, with the first Gold Certificate being presented in December 2003. The scheme has proved to be a wonderful tool in encouraging and motivating pupils towards good behaviour and a positive attitude to work.
Certificates are awarded in three stages, Bronze, Silver and Gold. In order the gain a certificate, pupils need to collect credits. These credits are issued for work of exceptional quality for a particular pupil or for pastoral contributions. To achieve a certificate, pupils need to achieve credits from at least three different subjects, plus a pastoral credit.
The breakdown for each certificate is as follows:
| Bronze | - | 10 credits |
| Silver | - | 20 credits |
| Gold | - | 40 credits |
The Rewards Scheme has had a very positive effect on Year 7,8 and 9 pupils. Once 40 merits, pertaining to a Gold Certificate, have been collected, pupils also receive a £5 Mall Voucher.
The pupils really enjoy collecting merits and several pupils last year gained 2 Gold Certificates, with a few dynamic pupils achieving three Gold Certificates. This really was outstanding.
In addition to the Student Rewards Certificates, pupils who gain two Gold Certificates (80 credits) and three Gold Certificates (120 credits) will receive a Headteacher’s Certificate from Dr Gibson.
The intention to help motivate positive behaviour and a positive attitude to work is certainly supported by the school’s reward system.
